Meet Our Eye Doctor in Austin

Meet Dr. Mark Chavana, a therapeutic optometrist with experience in eye disease care, specialty contact lenses, and pre- and post-cataract and LASIK care.

Our Optometrist’s Training Supports Your Eye Care

Dr. Mark Chavana earned his Doctor of Optometry degree at the University of Houston College of Optometry. His training at Houston Eye Associates emphasized care for cataracts and glaucoma. As a therapeutically licensed optometrist and optometric glaucoma specialist, he diagnoses and treats eye disease—not just whether you need a new glasses prescription.

Eye health and surgery-related care: His experience includes eye conditions linked to systemic diseases, along with care before and after cataract and LASIK surgery. That background matters when an exam reveals concerns beyond blurred vision or when you need eye care around a surgical procedure.

Contact lenses for different vision needs: His specialties include toric lenses for astigmatism, bifocal contacts, rigid gas-permeable lenses, and lenses for keratoconus, a condition that changes the shape of the cornea. This experience supports lens fitting when standard contacts may not meet your vision needs. He earned certification in corneal refractive therapy, which uses overnight lenses to temporarily reshape the cornea and reduce the need for daytime glasses or contacts.
